Vermicompost is a slow-release input. It does not need to be applied every week — the microorganisms it introduces continue working in the soil long after the initial application. Think of it as building a living system, not just feeding a plant.
Mix vermicompost into your potting medium when first planting. After that, top dress every 6–8 weeks during the active growing season (March to October in North India). Reduce to once every 3 months during winter when plant growth slows.
When repotting, always start fresh with a new vermicompost-rich mix. Old potting medium becomes depleted and compacted over a year. This annual reset is the most important application of the year.
Best time to repot: Just before the monsoon or at the start of spring — both are natural growth spurts when plants recover fastest.
For outdoor beds, apply vermicompost twice a year: once before the summer growing season (February–March) and once before the winter growing season (September–October). These two applications build and maintain soil biology through the year.
Fruiting and harvesting draws heavily on soil nutrition. After a productive harvest cycle, top dress with vermicompost to replenish what the plants consumed. This maintains soil health for the next planting cycle.
Apply 2–5kg of vermicompost around the drip line of fruit trees twice a year — once before flowering and once after fruit set. Spread in a ring starting 30cm from the trunk extending to the edge of the canopy. Water in well.
