Vermicompost is one of the safest inputs in gardening. These notes are guidance for getting the best results from an input that rewards correct use.
Vermicompost that has not fully matured can contain ammonia and pathogens. Prahas Vermicompost is fully processed and safe, but if producing your own, ensure the process is complete — the material should be dark, crumbly, and earthy-smelling before use.
Vermicompost improves water retention. After incorporating it into soil, you may need to water less frequently. Monitor soil moisture at 3–4cm depth before watering. Consistent overwatering will suffocate the beneficial microorganisms you are introducing.
Doubling the dosage will not double the speed of results. Vermicompost works through biological processes that have their own pace. Apply at the recommended rate and give it 3–4 weeks to show visible impact.
The beneficial bacteria and fungi in vermicompost are living. Storing in a sealed airtight bag, in direct sunlight, or in extreme heat will reduce their activity. Keep in a breathable container in a cool, shaded place.
Vermicompost is non-toxic, food-safe, and beneficial to all soil organisms. It actively supports earthworms, beneficial fungi, and microbial communities. There is no risk of burning roots, harming pets, or contaminating edible crops.
