Mix neem flakes into your potting medium when first planting. Reapply as a top dressing every 6–8 weeks throughout the growing season. In North India, this typically means applications in March, May, July, and September to maintain continuous protection through the monsoon and summer pest season.
The month before monsoon (May–June) is the most important application period. Warm, wet soil is the ideal breeding environment for fungus gnats, root mealy bugs, and soil nematodes. A good neem application before the rains arrive gives protection through the highest-risk period.
Tip: Combine the pre-monsoon neem application with fresh vermicompost for the best preventive effect — healthy, biologically active soil is naturally more resistant to pest establishment.
When you identify an active pest problem, apply neem flakes at the higher end of the dosage range immediately. Do not wait for the 6–8 week cycle. Apply again 3 weeks later to catch the next generation of pests before they can establish. Continue the normal preventive schedule after two treatment applications.
Pest activity slows significantly in North Indian winters. You can reduce applications to once every 10–12 weeks or pause entirely from December through February. Resume the regular schedule as temperatures rise in March.
