Cocopeat is a structural input โ it changes the physical properties of the growing medium. It can be used in wide ratios depending on whether you need more water retention, better aeration, or a lighter mix for seedlings.
Important: Cocopeat provides structure but contains no nutrients. It must always be combined with vermicompost, cow manure, or a balanced potting mix.
Place the block in a large container and add 4โ5 litres of warm water per kilogram. Let it expand fully (5โ8 times volume). Break apart remaining chunks. It should feel like a wrung-out sponge.
Pro Tip: Always fully rehydrate before mixing with other inputs.
Standard Mix: 40% Cocopeat + 30% Vermicompost + 30% Soil Succulents & Cacti: 60% Cocopeat Moisture-loving plants: 30% Cocopeat
Pure cocopeat or 80:20 cocopeat + vermicompost is ideal for seed trays. Its light texture allows delicate roots to grow easily.
Mix 20โ30% cocopeat into the top 15 cm of soil. Improves drainage in clay and water retention in sandy soil. Use 1โ2 kg per sq. metre.
Apply 2โ3 cm layer around plants. Can reduce watering frequency by 30โ40% in summer heat and moderates root zone temperature.
