Cow Manure Compost is safe and 100% Natural. These notes ensure correct use — the difference between excellent results and disappointment often comes down to one question: is it fully composted?
Fresh manure contains ammonia concentrations that burn plant roots, kill beneficial soil organisms, and can introduce pathogens. Only fully composted manure should be used. Prahas Cow Manure is fully composted — it smells earthy, not sharp.
Manure mounded directly against stems creates conditions for rot and disease. Apply in a ring around the plant, keeping at least 10–15cm clear of the stem. For trees, start the application 30cm from the trunk.
In containers, high concentrations of cow manure can lead to salt buildup and anaerobic conditions, especially if overwatered. Keep to 15–20% of the mix by volume. Flush containers with plain water once a month during the growing season to prevent salt accumulation.
Always water cow manure compost in well after application. This activates the biological processes that convert organic matter into plant-available nutrients and prevents the surface layer from drying into a crust that repels water.
After incorporating cow manure into a new bed, allow 1–2 weeks before planting. This lets the initial microbial activity stabilise and any residual ammonia to dissipate. The soil will be in better condition for root development after this settling period.
Fully composted cow manure is non-toxic and safe. It actively supports earthworms and beneficial soil organisms. Children and pets are safe around properly composted and applied cow manure. No protective equipment is needed for normal handling.
